JUNE 2021 - FILMS + TV (HOME VIEWING)

A bit of a non-event this month as most of our viewing was sidelined in favour of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament and football pretty much everyday. We did watch one film via Netflix and one 3 part TV drama.

July might be better as the football finishes on the 11th!

Secret in Their Eyes (2015) - Film

Another decent crime film with some great acting. The plot and ending I found a little bit predictable, but I did enjoy it. Love a bit of Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts.

From Google....

Detective Ray helps Jess, his former teammate, reinvestigate the death of her daughter after he finds new clues, leading them to a more shocking truth.

Time (2021) - BBC Drama mini series

Three episodes and another enjoyable Jimmy McGovern drama. Prison, inmates, staff, mistakes, consequences, bullying, family, violence, coercion, manipulation, atonement. I enjoyed it. I didn't find it quite as shocking as previous McGovern dramas, but it was very good. There's some great acting from the likes of Sean Bean, Stephen Graham and Sue Johnson

From Wikipedia .....

Plot
Mark Cobden is newly imprisoned, consumed by guilt for his crime, and way out of his depth in the volatile world of prison life. He meets Eric McNally, an excellent prison officer doing his best to protect those in his charge. However, when one of the most dangerous inmates identifies his weakness, Eric faces an impossible choice between his principles and his family.

Euro 2020

Back to back football and some cracking matches. Fortunately my lot, Ireland aren't present. We're in the doldrums at the minute and any pride at seeing them qualified and in the tournament would have quickly evaporated as I'm pretty sure all 24 teams here could give us a right drubbing.

Instead I've been entertained, pressure free by the likes of Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy, France, Switzerland and a few more. My wife and kids are rooting for England, and why wouldn't they. They've got a chance but will need to improve a bit more, before football comes home.

  1. Time was really good. I'll watch about anything with Sean Bean and Stephen Graham. What was really interesting was watching Sean Bean play against his character type (and that is all I'll say about that - let his acting be a surprise to those that have known him as Ned Stark in Game of Thrones).

    1. Those two are fantastic aren't they? I agree that we saw a different side to Bean from his usual roles.

  2. Glad you got a bit of decent viewing, Col. I've heard that Time is good, 'though I've not had a chance to see it myself. Funny how tournaments get in the way of 'regular' viewing...

    1. Margot, thanks. I think you'd like Time. Re tournaments, the Olympics are on the horizon, though not sure how the timings will work out for us here in the UK.

  3. I'm really looking forward to seeing 'Time' when it crosses the Iron Curtain. Two of my favourite actors and I really like Jimmy McGovern.

  4. Col – Thanks for the tip on TIME. Jimmy McGovern created the CRACKER series, so I will be checking out this one. As for football (soccer, to me) looks like England has a big game Sunday.

    1. Elgin, McGovern has a fantastic body of work to his name over the years and TIME is a strong addition. We'll be watching on Sunday evening. I'll be cheering on England, but my heart won't be totally in it. ,(Ireland always) I'll be really pleased for my wife and children if they win, but it will be tough.
