LOGGING THE LIBRARY - PART TWENTY

20th tub - so 1000 books logged and catalogued.

999 of them remain untouched and 1 has been pulled and read, I'd like to say I'm about halfway through the logging task but a quarter-way would be much nearer the mark!

Tub 20 - books 951 - 1000

Brit Crime, Brit Lit, US espionage, Us Lit, and some humour.

Loved the 5 People Heaven book.

Not sure what it's about - a second hand acquisition

John Grisham x 3 - I like a bit of legal now and again., Linoel Davidson and a Crais book which I have subsequently evicted from the library because I read it in 2013.

I think I've seen the film - Gene Hackman maybe?

Two New Zealand crime books from Paul Thomas, the ever-present Lawrence Block, Domenic Stansberry and Hard Case Crime, plus a 50's book by Harry Whittington

50's Noir and I think it got left out in the sun too long!

Block again, 2 from Hiaasen, Elmore Leonard and a Tom Sharpe

Not crime

Definitely crime

Tourist Season - one of the funniest books I have ever read, Helen MacInnes, Arnaldur Indridason - Iceland, Graham Greene and Ian Fleming

Not read any Fleming or Bond yet.

Daniel Silva series book.

Newton Thornburg - I absolutely loved his TO DIE IN CALIFORNIA - heart-wrenching.

30's novel from Greene

Block monster short story collection, Newton Thornburg, Daniel Silva, Sebastian Faulks and some non-fiction crime!

Brit Lit

Irreverent Les Norton, Aussie PI stuff

Brit Crime from the 90's I think

Another Barrett - Les Norton book, Robert Rankin, and Grisham again.

Tom Robbins - I hope it's better than the last one of his I read which sucked,  plus non-fiction memoirs type stuff from a war zone reporter.

Another Jon McGregor book, Jo-Ann Goodwin and Charles Williams

Brit-Lit

Bateman - N. Ireland Crime author, Erica Spindler wifey-book!

Clifford Hanley - I wanted his other book that Moira blogged about, but I found this instead

Grisham-like I think,
Another Station book from Downing, another Allon book from Silva and a REDNECK MANIFESTO from SHIT MAGNET author Jim Goad

Another Hiaasen, Nicholas Blincoe, Lawrence Block,  Robert Barrett, John Grisham.
Post-logging view of the tub.
The replacement book for the Robert Crais to bring the numbers back up to 50

Highlights........Newton Thornburg, Carl Hiaasen, Lawrence Block,

Lowlights.....nothing really that I'm now averse to reading.

Tub 21 next week, let the second thousand commence!

  1. Col, a thousand books — to me that's mindboggling considering that my own collection has fewer than a hundred paper books. I love the Graham Greene book cover and have been wanting to read this particular title. More room to your books!

    1. I think 1000, 2000, or probably 4000 is a bit mad, but when I put it into the context of loving books and being a big reader most of my adult life and the fact that I have only really started reading and disposing of in the past few years (I was always a keeper) I'm not beating myself up over it.

  2. Col - You really do have a large collection! I love it that you've got so much Lawrence Block, actually. And Hiassen and Grisham too! I really need to start digging in and putting my own books in better order like that...

    1. Thanks - I won't lie I do miss my study with its dense floor to ceiling shelves double-stacked with books, but sometimes you have to take one for the team.

At least with the project in hand, I can find what I want when I want it, or at least I will when I have finished.

Block, Hiaasen and Grisham - three favourite authors among many! I just need a time machine to expand my available reading hours!

  3. I see why you're reluctant to buy any more books. Your collection is huge, Col.

    1. More books than brains I'm afraid - I'll have to break the world longevity record to get half of them read!

  4. There's a book in there that I hated, threw-across-the-room hated, one of the Jon McGregor ones, If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things. Awful. And my mind is boggled by the sheer numbers you have. You should start a bookshop! And, I fully intended to send you that Scottish book, but obviously failed, when it turns up I will wing it your way.

    1. Throw across the room hated - better bump that one up the pile then, see what the fuss is all about. No problems re the Hanley, I err do have a few to be getting on with!

  5. Nice to hit a big number! I think I wanted to read a book by Bateman set in a bookshop - very vague memories of adding it to a list and obviously forgetting totally about it. When I google to see what it was called (Mystery Man), I see that Bateman is now known "mononymously" as 'Bateman' (Wikipedia), so I've learned a new word as well as being reminded of a book.

    1. That's a new word for me as well I reckon. I've enjoyed a few Bateman books over the years, back when he had two names!

  6. I can't believe I am this far behind in your Logging the Library posts. I can't believe you have this many books. I enjoyed The Light of Day by Ambler. There are other authors here that we have in common, but you have different books, so I look forward to your reviews.

    1. Tracy, I'm not even close to halfway yet! I'm looking forward to trying Ambler at some point.
