ADAM MAXWELL - DIAL M FOR MONKEY (2006)

Synopsis/blurb………

Adam Maxwell's first collection of short stories is inventive, funny, dark, and hugely entertaining. Effortlessly fusing pop culture, gunplay, and simians, Dial M For Monkey contains a vibrant mixture of short stories - and short-short stories including 'Happiness is a Warm Gun' which featured in McSweeney's Internet Tendency.

124 pages and approximately 20 short stories.

Dark, light, absurd and irreverent and all thing in-between.

Soul selling, chickens moving house, disputes with noisy, Elvis-loving neighbours, testicular ruptures and what does happen when you put a loaded gun in a microwave and press START?

A couple of hours enjoyable reading with this collection.

4 from 5

Acquired recently on Amazon UK for Kindle.

Adam Maxwell has his website here
Assuming I ever get the TBR pile under control, I'd be interested in trying more of his stuff.

  1. I think that's the best booktitle I've heard in a long time - is it related to the carer monkey of last month ;) ?

    1. Great title indeed, no connection to our carer monkey - a totally different best this time features in the story - I ALMOST SPANKED A MONKEY - literally not euphemistically.

  2. I love the title too, Col. And really, Elvis-loving neighbours? This does sound like a solid collection. Glad you enjoyed it.

  3. Col, 20 short stories is not bad for half-a-day's read. There's some variety in this collection.

  5. I am more into short stories now but these have got to be really short. I may try it some day.

    1. I think Glen had one of the author's books on his Goodreads list, which is how I came across him. Glad to hear your short story thing is working out for you.
