JUNE ADDITIONS TO THE TBR PILE...SOME OF ANYWAY!

10 of the books I acquired in the month, I don't know how I would be expected to resist something with a title like Shotgun Gravy, though if I read any of these in July it will probably be Chasing Bad Guys and Arctic Chill.

I'm off to spend some time seeing how to format pictures because this post looks like a proper dog's dinner!

  1. Christie! Now there's a writer I've heard of and read. I'm curious about Anne Holt's 1222; wonder what the title alludes to.

    1. Prashant, thanks for stopping by. Having not read a Christie since my schooldays, I thought I ought to get re-acquainted. I don't have the 1222 book to hand, so I can't shed any light on the meaning just yet, sorry.

  2. I think I skipped over Arctic Chill but Indridason is a solid writer. I've yet to read an Agatha Christie novel. Plan to start with Miss Marple. Holt and Disher are in my virtual library as well.

    1. Keishon, I'm hoping to get to this Disher series next year - no harm in stocking up early! Indridaason - I'm looking forward to, I really enjoyed the last one I read.

    2. Which one did you read last? I loved The Draining Lake and Jar City.

    3. The Draining Lake, maybe 3 months ago. I reckon I have Hypothermia which is the next one after Arctic Chill. The OCD in me will want to continue, even though I read Jar City years ago, then skipped the next couple.

  3. If you find out how to do pics nicely, do share - I have my own blog and run another website and the placing of images is the bane of my life.
Naturally, I have read the 2 books which are definitely by women (not sure about all of them) - the Anne Holt and the Christie, both very good. I'm intrigued by the book with what looks like Evita on the cover....

    1. Moira, I wouldn't hold your breath on me sorting out my issue with pics. Hopefully I will read the Christie in the next month or two, Holt - I don't know when.

Yes it is Evita - well spotted. I got offered a copy of the book by the publisher. It's about.......

On a summer’s night in 1955, CIA agent Michael Suslov is summoned to a secret vault in the heart of Buenos Aires. His mission: transport the corpse of Eva Peron to a new hiding place in the wake of her husband’s fall from power. But before Michael can comply, everything goes tragically, horribly wrong…

Sixteen years later, Michael Suslov is a ghost of a man, an ex-government agent living off the radar—and the only soul alive who knows where Evita is buried. When an old friend from Argentine Military Intelligence appeals to him for help bringing the body home, Michael agrees, hoping this final mission will quiet the demons from his past. But he’s not the only one on a recovery mission: two rogue CIA agents are tracking him, desperate to unearth Evita before Michael does—and to claim the secret millions they believe she took to her grave.

Based on a little-known yet fascinating true story, Blood Makes Noise is a brilliant examination of the power of the dead over the lives of the living.

    3. Moira, you're welcome to my copy when I'm done, not sure when though. Unfortunately it doesn't possess the "published" cover above, as it's an ARC,

  4. A very interesting group here. Just going by covers, I want the one by Zoran Drvenkar, because of the skull on the cover. Some of the other covers are very cool too. I am glad I am not the only one with image problems on my blog.
