LUCA VESTE - IT NEVER LEAVES YOU (2016)
Synopsis/blurb......
Murphy and Rossi are waiting, for as long as it takes, for a suspect to come home. And in this quiet moment, the conversation turns to past cases they can never forget …
Another short story-cum novella with the addition of a chapter of Luca Veste's latest full length novel - Then She Was Gone, the fourth in his DI Murphy and DS Rossi series.
We have a compelling narration of a horrific scene of domestic abuse and violence ramped up to the nth degree by Murphy. A haunting night were the regular call-out to the address has transgressed past the usual slap or punch into multiple fatalities and a lone little boy survivor Andrew. No wonder it's never far from Murphy's thoughts.
In our second half we pick up on Andy (our little boy), now a man and married and still struggling to overcome events of his past. He's on holiday with his wife and children and has just unburdened himself to his wife. His healing has just started and tomorrow's likely to be a better day.
You never forget. You just learn to live with it.
Impressive, I'm bloody haunted now myself!
4 from 5
The new book teaser was read and enjoyed, without feeling the urge to go and get myself a copy.
I read Luca Veste's first book back Dead Gone back in early 2014. Review here.
The author's website is here. Catch him on Twitter - @LucaVeste
My 49 page Kindle edition of It Never Leaves You was read in August. An Amazon Freebie at the time and it still is now!

I keep meaning to read this author, he's from Liverpool isn't he? Is this one set there?
ReplyDeleteGood memory Moira. I'm guessing that's him on his home turf in the photo. I believe all of his books are set in Liverpool.
DeleteI really need to put one of Veste's novels in the spotlight, Col. And I'm glad you've given me a nudge about his work.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I'll be keen to see which one. You might twist my arm to try another if it isn't DEAD GONE that's your spotlight book!
DeleteSounds like an interesting series, Col. I like conversations in mystery and crime novels.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy more from him I'm sure, but kind of have to draw the line somewhere with trying not to acquire every crime fiction book published in the English language! You could always try this one for free - plus it's short!
DeleteI'm quite tempted to give this one a try, although I might be better to look into his novels.
ReplyDeleteWell worth looking into I think, I've enjoyed what I've read from him.
DeleteYou are tempting me too, although I can't say when I will have time.
ReplyDeleteIt might still be free and it was only an hour or so's worth of reading!
