JUNE 2015 - FILMS AND TV

June wasn't too bad a month for some small screen viewing though from my notes. I don't actually seem to have watched much though, which is a bit puzzling because I didn't read more either.

This was a new release film with Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Jude Law and Miranda Hart and was watched at the cinema. I do like  two out of those four. Melissa McCarthy is absolutely hilarious and Jason Statham sends himself up no end in the comedy spy thriller. Jude Law is ok, but I'm never going to be his biggest fan. The only downside was Miranda Hart, who happens to be about as funny as a kick in the proverbials with a steel-toed boot. The rest of the family think she is hilarious, and I had to sit through some re-runs of her series - Miranda in June.

A year behind everyone else and I watched the second last episode, but not the last - where did the time go? Our two main men just got re-acquainted in Vegas with predictable results.

A couple of season 5 episodes - violent, brutal, gory - we are enjoying it in our house, though I don't have a clue who is doing what to who half the time.

Started in May, finished in June. Better than I thought it was going to be, but not amazing.

Watched a couple of months ago and watched again and still enjoyed. I like Sandler, though he's not to everyone's taste. Jennifer Aniston isn't too hard to watch either.

Others.......more Harry Potter re-watches, more Criminal Minds re-watches and nothing else that  I can recall.

July might be better as I got a couple of DVD films for Father's Day - Philip Seymour Hoffman - A Most Wanted Man and Liam Neeson in A Walk Among the Tombstones, based on one of Lawrence Block's Matt Scudder books. My son also bought me the first series of True Detective which we shall watch as a family at some point.

  1. Col, most of these are regularly shown on cable in India though I can't say I'm a big fan of Adam Sandler. I enjoy watching Liam Neeson's films, particularly when he plays the hero, as in "Taken," as opposed to the villain, as in "Batman Begins." I thought "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" was silly and the monkeys looked like stuffed toys.

    1. I think I'll have to disagree with you on Sandler, I like him - I think his humour appeals to me - I'm still a big kid! With Neeson you know you're going to get a different type of film to Sandler. The Ape film was enjoyed more than I thought it would be, which was a surprise.

  2. Like Prashant, I'm not very much a fan of Sandler, Col. I just don't find him particularly funny. I do like Liam Neeson, though, and I think Jennifer Aniston has had some good roles. Most recently, I thought she was good in We're the Millers . I've not seen Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    1. I don't think I have seen WE'RE THE MILLERS - I'm off to look it up. My daughter's are big fans of hers.

  3. The meeting of minds here is Harry Potter - we're working our way through all the films again after a visit to the Harry Potter studio tour....

    1. Had to sit through some of HALF BLOOD PRINCE last night!
We did the studio tour last August for my youngest's birthday, enjoyable if not a tad expensive in the gift shop. The cashiers should all have been wearing Dick Turpin masks. I felt like I'd been held up!

Okay, I give in. Second last episode of what?

'Fraid I'm with everyone else on Sandler.

  5. Haven't watched any of these, and probably won't. But I am looking forward to what you have to say about your new DVDs after you watch them.

    1. I think the whole family will enjoy the Neeson, the Le Carre based one less so. I'll probably watch it with my wife and our dogs!
