HIGHLIGHTS..... I do like
Andrew Vachss and his
Burke books. I'm keen to try
Thomas H. Cook also. Overall a hoh-hum tub really, nothing exceptionally stand-out.
Richard Price, I like.
Philip Kerr I've not tried.
Mark SaFranko - I've just read his
The Favor and loved it.
If I was out shopping today for 50 books, I'm not too sure how many of this lot would make it into my basket!
LOWLIGHTS..... Baldacci and Deaver aren't thrusting themselves forwards into my eager hands

Quite a few authors I have a glancing acquaintance with. I do like Nelson De Mille, and I have read that Charles Cummings one. And - I once interviewed Michael Dobbs, he was a delight.
ReplyDeleteDe Mille, I have still to try. Ditto Dobbs. Cumming - I have read a couple and am not totally convinced by him.
DeleteI see you have some Kerr there, Col - can't go wrong with his Bernie Gunther novels. And McCarthy, too? You're going to have some solid reading when you get to those books.
ReplyDeleteBernie Gunther series needs to get pencilled in and scheduled otherwise Kerr will get away from me!
DeleteChester Himes’s series about Harlem detectives Gravedigger Jones and Coffin Ed Johnson is really terrific. Richard Price is also good. The last book of his I read was LUSH LIFE – tough, hard New York City streets.
ReplyDeleteElgin, my last Himes outing wasn't a success, but I think the Harlem books will be better. I've not yet read Lush Life, but I'm looking forward to it. His last book was published under a pseudonym - The Whites. Thisone has been recommended to me.
DeleteLots of variety here. Lots of books / authors I am not familiar with. And those that I have, I haven't read yet. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? I would like to try Demille, but his books are soooo long.
ReplyDeleteDeja-vous! DeMille does a good job putting people off from his books - someone maybe ought to tell him less is more!
DeleteHope you enjoy Thomas H Cook as much as I do, when you get to him. And the Goodises (or just Goodies?) have me salivating!
ReplyDeleteGoodis had a few on the Munsey's site, which begs the question is it still disappeared? I'll check in a bit. I've not come across anyone who has read Cook yet. I'll start him soon!
DeleteCol, the Martin Cruz Smith alternative history is one I'd be looking for. I didn't about that particular title. I'd also like to know what you think of George V. Higgins, another author I have never read.
ReplyDeleteRe Cruz Smith - the bonus is its a short book also! Higgins I haven't read for a fair few years. I'm long overdue another title of his!
