LOGGING THE LIBRARY - PART TWENTY-EIGHT

Another tub, logged and sorted. Looks like its testosterone week with a fair few manly, action books and not a female author in sight!
Tub 28

Andy McNab week obviously.

Mark Gimenez, Tom Rob Smith, Alex Dryden,

McNab, Robert Littell, Gerald Seymour, Len Deighton, Jim Thompson,

English thriller writer

Jim Thompson - mid 50's

Twenty eight weeks in, at least my photography skills have improved.

Shiny Robert Littell book,

McNab and Littell,

Norman Parkhurst, Justin Scott, Nick Brownlee, Herbert Lieberman,

Keith Thomson, Andy McNab, Robert Ludlum, Simon Kernick,

UK author, I've not read him for about 10 years

Robin Moore, Martin Cruz Smith, John Milne, Michael Malone, Quentin Tarantino,

Jimmy Jenner series book.
Non-fiction - The French Connection.

US author, though confusingly there is another one around with a similar name.

I did like the film, why not read the screenplay?

Teddy Hayes, Patrick Bishop, Charles Bukowski, Robert Littell, Matthew F. Jones,

Teddy Hayes

Littell - spy stuff.

Bukowski short stories

Afghan war novel.

Ted Lewis, Justin Scott, Stuart MacBride, George V. Higgins,

One of a 5 book series

John Harvey, Ian Fleming, Daniel Silva, Mark Timlin,

John Harvey Scott Mitchell book.

Bond

Eugene Izzi, David Bowker, Trevanian, Tom Sharpe, John Skipp/Craig Spector,

Not too sure if I have seen the film or not.

Definitely not crime.
Manchester author.

Eugene Izzi

Kelly series book.

The end!
Highlights......well I always enjoy a book from Eugene Izzi, I like the look of the Littell books and the John Milne. Moira from CiB liked the Justin Scott, so I ought to air that at some point soon.

Lowlights...nothing especially. I have read Andy McNab before and enjoyed him, but I haven't rushed back to him which begs the question - why get all his books? I'll enjoy them when I read them, but just hope it isn't a case of reading the same book again and again and again!

  1. Lots of Littell this time, Col. That's an author I haven't (yet) tried; I'll be keen to know what you think. Noticed you have a Ludlum too. That was my first real introduction to espionage thrillers.

    1. Margot, yes Littell aplenty - more to come in following weeks! Not too many Ludlum's - this and his Bourne books I think, which should be sufficient for me.

  2. That's some seriously manly stuff! LIttle there to tempt me apart from, as you say, the Justin Scott - I do like his books. I can't imagine what that cover image is, though, it seems to bear little relation to the book....

    1. Maybe when I read them we might have something else for you.

  3. What type of author is Tom Sharpe? Does he write crime fiction? I did buy one book by him, forget title but I'm told his work is humorous. The only Bukowski I've read was Post Office which was great (not crime fiction either).

    1. Sharpe is, according to wiki, a satirical novelist. I have read one of his and enjoyed it, but haven't rushed to the rest. I loved Post Office by Bukowski - yeah not crime either but I like his writing. Makes a bit of a change from murder this, murder that....

    2. He did write a mystery novel. I've just not read it yet - Pulp (1994). His last completed novel. I think I will go ahead and read it. Sounds interesting about a detective who solves his cases by "waiting them out."

    3. Haha - boom lightbulb moment - I think I have all his novels (6 maybe?) including this, not uncovered it yet in the stacks (tubs). I kind of assumed it was in a similar vein to his other stuff.....semi-autobiographical, day to day working, drinking, more drinking, a bit of writing, more drinking...apparently not.
I hope I find it soon!

  4. You have a Littell that I do not have... The Revolutionist. It sounds interesting. Hope you read it and review it sometime.

  5. Col, Andy McNab is absolutely new to me, so I'll have to check out his books. The only Robin Moore novel I read was DUBAI and I recommend it, though I haven't read THE FRENCH CONNECTION (seen the film, of course). Gerald Seymour and Jim Thompson are already on my wishlist. Tom Sharpe is hilarious. I read him years ago and am sitting on half a dozen of his novels with their well-illustrated covers.

    1. I initially thought THE FRENCH CONNECTION was a novel but when checking the dates it's classed at non-fiction. I doubt I will read anything else by the author, but he seems to have written a fair bit.

Sharpe I have read one of so far and liked it okay. The cover art is similar on a lot of his books, which does draw you in.

  6. That's such a great box full of aggro blokey books - surprised they haven't been fighting it out in the box. ;-)

    1. I may well have been disturbed the other night, by the sound of fisticuffs in the attic. I reckon McNab is probably a bit of a hard b'stard...so I think he won!
