NOVEMBER 2015 - FILMS AND TV

Not a fantastic month's viewing by any stretch of the imagination, with no trips to the cinema or theatre. All my viewing came courtesy of the small screen.

Latest season of this dark and gory US show. Lady Gaga stars, Kathy Bates is pretty good too. Other standouts so far include Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson.  Not sure why they had Naomi Campbell in it, other than for her name. As far as her acting skills go - stick to the modelling!

Not a fan of Gwynny to be honest. She looks good, but it ends there for me. I've consciously uncoupled myself from Goop and any other nonsense she spews. I do like Jack Black and this is a very funny film, while still making a serious point. Second viewing for me.

Criminal Minds Season 11....yawn. Well it's okay but its nonsense. I do like Matthew Gray Gubler's character though.

BOOM - highlight of the month - FARGO SEASON 2 - 4 episodes watched by the lady of the house and myself. Pretty fucking amazing is the verdict so far. Nice to see Kirsten Dunst again - the last time I saw her she was Spidey's on-off girlfriend! Great acting, great scenery, great dialogue, great everything.  Ted Danson is in it also.

My favourite Fargo character - Mike Milligan  (Boheem Woodbine)

Another Christmas movie and fair to say it warmed the cockles of our hearts in the Keane household. My top Christmas film this year so far - but I will be subjected to another 3 and a half week's worth yet!

Awful, grim, unfunny, vomit inducing - the price you sometimes have to pay for having two teenage daughters. Hugh Grant and Colin Firth I like in anything but this. What's worse is I know that the girls will be hankering to watch the sequel. Please don't tell me there was a third one......aaargh!

I never got back to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil - still on the black box though. I couldn't find Straw Dogs which I thought I had - so I bought the DVD. I recorded The Quiet American with Michael Caine but haven't watched it yet.

  1. Fargo 2nd season is just great. I've seen 7 episodes so far, and there are 3 more, if I understand correctly.

    1. I'm hard pushed to decide whether I prefer the first season to this one. I think they are equally amazing. I'm missing Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton but the new cast is fantastic, as is the storyline. I think it runs to 10 episodes in total - I wish it was more!

  2. Glad you enjoyed Fargo as much as you did, Col. The original film is one of my tops, actually. And I have to agree with you about Naomi Campbell...

    1. Margo - it's a treat. We still have 3 episodes on catch-up with 3 more still to air - I'm deciding whether to binge watch or dole them out miserly - one at a time to savour it. The likelihood is as Christmas approaches we will need the spare hours on the recorder for festive viewing. Probably a binge then!

Naomi Campbell....I'm puzzled. My son kept screaming for her to be killed off - and she was, but it's a series where anything goes, so I don't think we've seen the last of her!

  3. The only one I really know (apart from the film of Fargo) is Bridget Jones, which - you guessed it - I loved of course. Third one is being made at the moment, bet you can hardly wait.

    1. I thought you might have known SHALLOW HAL, but maybe not.
      BJ - 3 - if that's a euphemism you have my attention!

  4. Col, the family occasionally watches "Criminal Minds." It's a fairly good crime series. As for Jack Black, you'd have to drag me by the collar to watch his films, though I did enjoy "The Vacation" largely on account of Kate Winslet and Jude Law.

    1. Haha.....we will have to agree to disagree. I enjoyed THE VACATION, in spite of the presence on Kate Winslet and Jude Law!

  5. Tracy used to watch Criminal Minds with me in exchange for Castle. We gave up on both of them over a year ago. Shows just wear out after awhile.

    1. That's true. I think this one has gone over its expiration date.

  6. I agree with you about FARGO in that I think both series are in their own way amazing. Mike Milligan is a favorite of mine too! I've seen eight episodes already and will be sad when it's over. Good news is that FARGO has been renewed for a 3rd season so...

    1. Keishon - a 3rd season? Yay - best news I've heard all day!

  7. I'm a big fan of Kirsten Dunst, too. She's done some really interesting work, but a lot of it has slipped below the general radar.

The best incarnation of Bridget Jones's Diary, IMO, was its first, when it ran in the Indie as a faux-diary column.

    1. I just looked her up on IMDb - I suppose I ought to make an effort to see THE TWO FACES OF JANUARY at some point!
BRIDGET was a column was it? I just thought it was a book....another bit of trivia to store away! Romantic comedy is not my specialist subject.

  8. We will be watching Fargo someday, I hope. Haven't seen either season and both sound appealing.

    1. Great - I hope you like them when you do. If you like one you'll definitely like both.
