You have some excellent books there, I think, Col. The Mallo is great - highly recommended. And I love the cover of the Nisbet.
ReplyDeleteCheers Margot, I know you've championed the Mallo in the past. And yes - what a cover on the Nisbet!
DeleteI was wondering how Margery Allingham got in there, but Tiger is her most thriller-like book...
ReplyDeleteSneaked in when my back was turned I think!
DeleteSome great cover art in this batch, especially to me the Nisbet and Safranko's Lounge Lizard.
ReplyDeleteI have Midnight Plan of the Repo Man but it is unread.
Glen, those two are my favourite covers. I like the Repo Man cover also, I bet you get to it before me!
DeleteI have read all of the Kerr books up through The One from the Other and A Quiet Flame. They seem exactly like your kind of novels. The Tourist is good, of course. (I haven't read the third in that series.)
ReplyDeleteTracy, I think I started collecting them when he had about 5 or 6 in the series. I think he's had the 10th out this year and I still haven't read one. I wanted to finish Steinhauer's earlier books before starting the Weaver series, but that hasn't happened yet.
DeleteThe early Steinhauers are the best; I will reread them someday.
DeleteI'm hoping I have time to get to them once! I think I've only gotten to two of them so far.
DeleteOh, lots of goodies in there. The Allingham, the Robinsons, the McCoy, the Goodis, the Greene . . . I'm surprised you were able to put them back in the box.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the ones you mentioned, but they probably aren't the same ones I'd select first for myself.
DeleteCol, I see a lot of interesting books by new authors and with some unusual covers and titles too. I fancy Jim Nisbet's "The Octopus on My Head!"
ReplyDeleteIt does look good, but I can't remember what it's about. I'll have to look it up again!
DeleteI really liked the Philip Kerr series (not up to date yet, but one day...): he is so good on that mix of history and made-up: really great research and a great noir voice. The early ones in particular are amazing.
ReplyDelete(And, Happy New Year!)
ReplyDeleteVicki thanks for the endorsement of Kerr, maybe I'll pull my finger out and read him before the end of the decade!
DeleteHappy New Year to you also!
