AUGUST ADDITIONS TO THE LIBRARY....SOME OF AT LEAST

Amongst a book parcel from a friend in Florida!
Despite having more books than I can shake a stick at, I continue to have my head turned constantly. These are some of the additions to the shelves. I will probably read Fletch first, out of this lot.....or maybe Freeling.

  1. Col - I'll be very interested to see what you think of the Freeling. And I'm so glad you'll get the chance to read some of C.J. Box's work. He's very talented in my opinion. I like his Joe Pickett series.

    1. Margot, I was interested in trying at least one of Freeling's books and I think this one won an Award. Box I'm curious about too.

  2. I have not heard of McKenzie or Heller, and look forward to seeing what you think of all of these. Especially Fletch Forever and the Freeling book. I am sure I read some or all of the Fletch books years ago and don't know if I would go back and reread them, but I am sure that they are good reads.

    1. Tracy, I have seen Chevy Chase in the film, many many years ago and never really considered the books, until a friend gifted me them. I think the first 2 in the series won Edgar's or Anthony's.
Hope you're not holding your breath waiting for a reaction to the Heller, McKenzie etcs....I don't think I will be quick!

  3. I am unsure about C.J. Box. I read a standalone of his that made me mad. It was "Back of Beyond." The first part of the book was awesome. I mean it moved fast and had a somewhat unusual start that was refreshing. The second half, labeled as the "second half" was awful. The momentum, the pace and suspense, all of it disappeared and I stopped reading after reading over half. I've been quite hesitant to try anything else from C.J. Box. Have you read him? I've his series books are quite good. I'm somewhat willing to read Open Season one day but am in no rush. The rest of your list sounds interesting. I see you have a le Carre in there.

    1. Keishon.....no never tried him, but I will have to after that experience you've described. I may buy "Back of Beyond" to see if my reaction mirrors your own.

    2. A fine lot of books, Col. I have been meaning to read some John le Carre for a while now though I don't remember this title. Great covers all round.
