FEBRUARY ADDITIONS TO THE LIBRARY.............SOME OF AT LEAST

Time for some honesty, there's probably more chance of hell freezing over than me ever stopping my acquisition of new books. I'll shut up about it then, as perhaps less talk and more inaction would be a better recipe.

    You've got variety there, Col. I plan to read Bill Pronzini this year. I've read reviews of his books on several blogs in recent months. Where did some of these books come from? I'm glad you are not taking your "no more buying books" resolution seriously. No bookworm should.

      Prashant thanks. PICK UP and THE RED RIGHT HAND were offered to me as e-books by the publisher and I like the look of them. The CAROLYN HART book was also sent to me by the publisher - Seventh Street books. DANNY KING, who is a favourite of mine (and Moira's) was a free offering on Am UK after receiving an e-mail tipping me off. The MARSHALL I found cheap on e-bay after Tracy's husband Glen mentioned him to me over on the Goodreads site. The VIAN book I bought new after having it on my radar for a year or two. Some of the rest were acquired cheapish and secondhand on Am UK - PRONZINI I have previously read and this one I've seen good reviews for. TREMBLAY, WILLIAMSON, CLARK and FONDATION - speculative punts that I will enjoy them! CLARK and Fondation were AM UK e-books.

      I do think book covers provide some of the most striking art-work around today. Not always, but generally speaking.

    A very kind person had already pointed out the Danny King to me. Based on titles and covers, they all look fantastic, and strangely the least appealing one, the Carolyn Hart, is probably the one you would most expect me to read. There's definitely something in me that responds to noir-ish written and visual images - those are works of art....

      Moira - it was pointed out, but did you take the next step? I will be watching CiB closely!
      HART's book is one of the least eye-catching covers of them all, but I wouldn't say I dislike it. CLARK's is a bit uninspiring. EAST BAY GREASE - I have seen a more attractive cover for. BLUE LONESOME is great, but the resolution on my image isn't. It's out of focus, but it is a striking cover nevertheless.
      I'm definitely a cover-junkie though. My favourite is the SILVERBERG.

    Col - You have a nice lot there! I'm especially interested in the Rogers, the Pronzini and the Hart. And I see the Rogers has an introduction by Martin Edwards, whose series and short stories I like very much. I'm looking forward to your reviews.

    Now I have to go look all of those up... or some of them anyway.

    Glen told me there were some good covers, so here I am checking them out. My favorite is The Little Sleep. I like book covers with guns, even though I don't like guns. I just got a great one by Warren Ellis, called Gun Machine.

    And this is just some of the haul. You are worse than me.

      Tracy, I had you marked down as a card carrying NRA member. You mean you don't sport a large tattoo of Charlton Heston across your back!? Another assumption shattered!
      I hope you enjoy Ellis' Gun Machine. I ought to like it I guess but I was a bit underwhelmed by Crooked Little Vein, though I can't remember that much about it now. Tremblay has a follow on to Little Sleep which I guess I ought to hold off on until I try the first. Might be a bit gimmicky, but I like the sound of a narcoleptic PI.

      Hiya - I think you'd probably like the Vian book......hopefully some of the others too. My Goines hasn't arrived yet, so I include him in my March round-up!
