Col, you got some fine books there, especially the Terry Shames book. It's interesting that you should highlight a Lawrence Block novel for I have four of his books in front of me right now. I hope to take them home, from my office, for the long Diwali weekend. I need to take an inventory of some of my books.
ReplyDeletePrashant, I'm looking forward to all of these. I hope you enjoy your Block's - which ones are they?
DeleteCol, the four as-yet unread books by Lawrence Blocks in my possession are "Me Tanner, You Jane," "Like Lamb to a Slaughter," "Burglars Can't Be Choosers," and "A Walk Among the Tombstones." I believe books second and fourth are really good. I hope to find out soon.
DeleteBurglar and Tombstone, I believe I have. The Tanner one I have heard of, but the Lamb book is a new one to me. I think you should read them one after the other! (Only joking - looking forward to the review!)
DeleteThe only authors I recognize is Lawrence Block and the Terry Shames book you reviewed earlier this year (which I bought). Have you read a lot of Lawrence Block's books? I am a fan but of his hit man series - John Keller. Some of his short stories are pretty awesome and the one Matthew Scudder I read was great - When The Sacred Ginmill Closes.
ReplyDeleteKeishon, I started reading the Scudders and kind of fell away the past few months. The Keller Hit Man series are on my radar also. I read the first a few years ago. I've read a couple of standalones of his but not too many.
Delete2nd Terry Shames I'm looking forward to also......not enough time!
Happy reading for you, a very varied selection there! Is the next Terry Shames out then? I definitely want to read that. I read a couple of those early Ellis Peters books - very much of their time, giving a real feel for the early 60s, but not sure if this was one of them. [Pause for a quick check] - yes I did, and liked it as a period piece.
ReplyDeleteThe second Shames is out in January, for some reason the people at Seventh Street like me and I have an ARC to peruse. I've not read any Ellis Peters and thought one would be in order. I hadn't checked before getting it and thought it would be a Cadfael book, but it isn't. Not a problem though.
DeleteCol - You've got some very nice additions. Happy to see you're reading Lawrence Block. And I'll be really interested in what you think of the Brazill.
ReplyDeleteMargot, I'm looking forward to both Block and Brazill, who I have managed to avoid to date.
DeleteInteresting group of books. I hope to see reviews for some of them soon. I did get the first Terry Shames book. And I have read the first George Felse book that precedes Death and the Joyful Woman. Hope I get to the next one some day.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get on well with the first Terry Shames. I hadn't realised Peters had written a long detective series, I thought she was all about the monk. My ignorance shines through yet again!
