10 books of various lengths read in the month, which keeps pace with the year-end target. I just need to maintain until the end of the year.
February consisted of the worst book read in a long, long while. I can't actually recall a 1 star read since the blog started.......Chester Himes - you own it!
7 of the 10 were new-to-me authors. Himes, Putnam and Evanoberg (or is it Goldvich, I forget) have all been read previously.
2 of the 10 were short reads,
5 of the 10 came courtesy of Net Galley as I try to catch-up,
2 were paperbacks, 1 was a printed PDF (a short story before all the tree huggers send me abuse), 7 were Kindle reads.
7 were from this decade, 1 from the 50's (boo, hiss), 1 from the 80's and 1 from the 90's
8 Americans, 1 Scottish and 1 English author,
9 and a half were male, half a read was female (could do much better - deja-vous)
1 - 1 star, 7 x 4 stars and 2 x 5 star reads, vying for the supreme accolade of Col's Criminal Library January Pick of the Month .......Crider or Putnam, Putnam or Crider?
The Replacements by David Putnam gets the nod by a short-head.
Lee Goldberg/Janet Evanovich - The Job (2014) (4)
Bill Crider - Outrage at Blanco (1998) (5)
Russel D. McLean - Cry Uncle (2015) (4)
Lee Matthew Goldberg - Detached (2013) (4)
Chester Himes - The End of a Primitive (1955) (1)
Bob Forward - The Owl: Justice Never Sleeps (1984) (4)
David Putnam - The Replacements (2015) (5)
Tony Peluso - Archangel of Sedona (2014) (4)
Dick Lochte - Rappin' Dog (2014) (4)
Tim Stevens - Spiked (2013) (4)

Col, the Bill Crider book would be my future choice from your reading list for February. Except for Chester Himes, I think, the other authors are going to be delighted with their ratings.
ReplyDeleteI was conflicted as to who to give the nod to. As I have got the second book TEXAS VIGILANTE by Crider on Net Galley, I was swayed towards DAVE PUTNAM. BC gets a second shot at glory!
DeleteCol - You've had a varied reading month, but it's good to hear there were a lot more 'winners' than disappointments. I think Crider's talented, but haven't picked this particular one up yet - should do that!
ReplyDeleteMargot - yes much more good than bad, thankfully. I will be reading Bill Crider again in the future, which is something to look forward to,
DeleteHaving read the first Bill Crider book and enjoyed it a lot, I am more interested in trying out Outrage at Blanco. However, I have purchased several in the Dan Rhodes series (both toward the beginning and the last few books in the series) so I plan to read some of those first.
ReplyDeleteRe Dan Rhodes - don't forget all those in the middle either! :)
DeleteI know, I am waffling right now on whether to try to read them all in order, or skip ahead to the newer ones.
DeleteTough one - how deep are your pockets and how much time do you have? In my case - shallow and none!
DeleteLike Margo said you had a varied list of reads. You found a Himes book I'd never heard of before and it wasn't a good one either. Thanks for taking one for the team on that one. Bill Crider sounds interesting to try so thanks for the tip. Not sure what I want to read or even if I will but I do want to try his books.
ReplyDeleteI think Crider has written over 50 books including horror fiction, so you'll have plenty of choice, Keishon.
DeleteNice list - not a single one I've read there, but some I might get to....
ReplyDeleteHow about if I told you they all featured knitted knickers?
DeleteI would, of course, immediately get hold of all of them. And some knitting needles.
DeleteCool......I won't fib to you on this occasion then...
