FEBRUARY 2015 - FILMS AND TV

A short month and a quiet month as far as the old gogglebox went.......a few films and a few TV shows were enjoyed nevertheless.

A Swedish subtitled film from the late 70's. I've seen better, I've seen worse.

Adam Sandler can be a bit hit or miss with his films, but he has made some of my all-time feel good favourites - The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates. He has a good heart I reckon and this was an enjoyable and amusing watch. I doubt he will win any Oscars, but he makes me laugh most of the time.

Last of the series, so I need something to fill Monday and Tuesday nights for an hour.

Not too sure if I liked the ending, in particular the opposing lawyers more or less kissing and hugging it out - seems a bit contrived to me, but hey mostly okay.

Dark film set somewhere in the East - Thailand maybe? Quite enjoyed it, Gosling is very good. A bit weird, with our karaoke singing policeman.

Sandler film number 2 - and another feel-good film. I don't mind a bit of Jennifer either. Entertaining and a decent way to pass the evening.

All the family love this one.....gross, OTT but strangely compelling. I do like a bit of Jessica Lange. This series focused on 50's American carnival freaks.
Bang - the second series of this amusing Brooklyn Cop comedy show. Twenty five minutes of pure fun and stupidity.

    1. Indeed, everything was watched with at least one or other of the tribe present

  2. Lots of variety here, Col. And I agree: a film doesn't have to be an award winner to be entertaining.

    1. Margot, it's nice to put the books aside sometimes and kick back

  3. Col, I haven't seen any of these films and shows though I'm not an Adam Sandler fan. All his films look the same, often associated with sports and kids.

    1. I suppose you could say they are formulaic, but you know what? They work for me!

  4. American Horror Story was recommended to me. My sister went through all the seasons in a week on Netflix. So, yes, I hear you when you say it is compelling despite its OTT nature. Nosferatu was an unauthorized version of Bram Stoker's Dracula I learned. Was curious about for all of a second when I read Dracula last year.

    1. I reckon AHS would be right up your street. Nosferatu was probably the least favourite of the bunch, I'm not too big a fan of subtitled films.

  5. A lot of your watching in February I had not even heard of. I do want to watch Brooklyn Nine Nine sometime, although in general I don't like comedies. I like Andre Braugher.

    1. Aaargh Tracy, you really need to watch at least one episode, then you'll either love it or hate it. Either way I don't think you would be indifferent. 22 minutes out of your busy life!

    2. OK, I put it high on the Netflix queue. We should get to it fairly soon.
