TOM PITTS - PIGGYBACK (2012)

Synopsis/blurb......

When two young girls disappear with a trunk-load of pot, unaware that their payload has been packed with an extra five kilos of cocaine, a lovable loser persuades a sociopathic killer to pursue them across Northern California in a violent, twisted goose-chase that ends in a horrific place none of them could have foreseen.

Short and not so sweet, particularly for the combatants of this Tom Pitts' novella.

Friendship, missing drugs and severe consequences if they aren't recovered, so a wacky road trip, involving kidnap, opportunity, poor choices, college kids out of their depth, confrontation, a meet the family re-union which ends badly and more mayhem..... interrogation, a drunken mother, a dysfunctional family, a body in the trunk, some flirting and a blood thirsty raiding party.

Enjoyable with an outcome I didn't anticipate especially with all that had come before. A couple of hours solid entertainment. Great fun and another example of why I love Tom Pitts' work.

4 from 5

Tom Pitts has been enjoyed a couple of times before....... 101 (2018) and American Static (2017)
Knuckleball and Hustle still need to be read.

  1. Hmm...Interesting premise and setting, Col. It sounds a bit more bloodthirsty than I usually get with my reading, but I do like a good 'road' story. Glad you enjoyed this.

  2. I do love that cover, and the length is good. The sociopathic killer is a bit daunting. But you liked his other books too. I give it a Maybe.

  3. And it's short! I should definitely give this a try.

I meant to pass on to you the lament for the dearth of short books recently published on the EQMM blog, in case you haven't seen it: https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/33885092/posts/2223

  4. Sounds like a good read – and I am ready for some shorter fiction. But first I have Pitts’ book, 101, to read.
