LOGGING THE LIBRARY - PART FOURTEEN

Tub number 14, another 50! I do still need to catch up on the trifling details for the past half a dozen or so tubs, otherwise I'm no better off......just a load of pictures!
Tub 14

3 sporting autobiographies, plus Blue Blood and Charles Alverson

No expense spared on this cover, I think the hand holding the glass is De Niro and the other one is Hoffman

I never liked Man Utd and I'm not Scottish, but I loved Denis Law as a player growing up.

Zoe Sharp, Jasper Fforde, Eric Ambler, another Alverson and Jonathan Valin

I much Prefer this Alverson cover to the one above.

Mario Puzo, Mike Galye, R.D.Wingfield, Day Keene, Scott Frost

50's crime re-issued

David Morrell, Jeffery Deaver, Peter Robinson, Lorenzo Carcaterra, Val McDermid

Untried author as yet

J.F. Freedman, Tami Housebrick, Mario Puzo, J.D. Rhoades, Dan J. Marlowe

Second Drake book 1969

Irvine Welsh, John B. Spencer, Marc Blake, Jimmy Boyle, Jake Adelstein

Novel from former convict turned author.

Paul Levine x 3, John Milne, Thomas H. Cook

1st Levine book I read back in the day - loved it.

I do like Gerald Petievich, another Thomas H.Cook

Larry Brown, Pete Dexter, John O'Farrell, Irvine Welsh, Lawrence Block

2 from Mario Puzo, Don McCullin, Bill James, James Brown

Memoir from James Brown (not THE James GET ON UP Brown)

Espionage from Bill James

A fairly decent looking tub, I'm looking forward to most of them. I haven't picked up a sports book for a while, so that's something that's overdue.

Highlights.....Gerald Petievich even if most will be re-reads, Paul Levine, Lawrence Block and I've been meaning to read Eric Ambler's The Mask of Dimitrios for a few years now, (my copy is entitled A Coffin for Dimitrios). I did like the one J. D. Rhoades book I have read so far.

Lowlights.....I think I bought the Tami Hoag book for my wife and she was put off by the size of it. Me too I think.

  1. Eric Ambler is always good value - love that sort of espionage where you have to do things the hard way without a mobile phone!

    1. Vicki, I have yet to read Ambler. I do like my pre-tech Crime and Espionage though. Can you remember life before mobiles and the internet? Seems a lifetime ago.

  2. Col, my pick of your Book Tub 14 would be Mario Puzo. I haven't read his novels in years. I remember reading a couple of his books alongside a couple of books by Leon Uris. I forget the titles. Someday I hope to (re)read their novels.

    1. Prashant, shamefully I haven't yet read Puzo! I did used to enjoy Uris back in the day (25 plus years ago) but I believe I got rid of all his books a few years ago. QBVII was a particular favourite - very powerful.

  3. Col - You do have quite a haul there. I do hope you'll get the chance to read Puzo's work. It is, I think, very well done. And that Lawrence Block looks really interesting.

    1. Margot - I really ought to pull my finger out and read some Mario Puzo soon. Shamefully not watched the iconic film either

  4. Not much there to tempt me at face value, but some nice covers, and you never know what the verdict might be when you come to read them....

    1. Moira, that's fair enough. I'll try and change your mind later on,

  5. I have that David Morell book but I haven't tried the series. And you have lots of Mario Puzo books?

    1. I did enjoy Morrell more a few years ago. I have stopped getting his books and haven't read him for a couple of years now. Puzo.....what can I say, lots of his books and I don't even know if I like his writing style or not! Ridiculous really

  6. Some true hardboiled criminals in there. Jackie Charlton, I mean.

    1. Haha....I think if he was playing today, he might get prosecuted for some of his tackles. Him and the other 10 in that Leeds team!
