LOGGING THE LIBRARY - PART FIFTEEN

Another week another tub........mainly hard-back city this week I think,
Tub 15

Number cazillion in a long series

Love a bit of Willeford - a 3-fer omnibus!
Charles Willeford - I think these 3 are from the 60's and 70's

Bullet - a now defunct UK crime magazine!

Hitchcock - not defunct US Magazine, well I don't think it is.

Jess Mowry, Douglas Kennedy

A couple of Val McDermid housebricks!

3 boxing books!

2 from Harry Crews, John King, James Hall

One volume of Willeford's autobiography, Martina Cole, George Best autobiography,

F.X.Toole, Chester Himes - autobiography, Herbert Lieberman, Lee Child, Colin Bateman

Bill James, Harry Crews and a Harry Crews omnibus/collection.
The man himself as a young boy! 3 novels in this collection.
Jeremy Cameron, Henry Porter, Irvine Welsh, Henning Mankell, Peter Robinson

Robinson-Banks again!

Scottish writer - Irvine Welsh!

A couple of sports autobiographies - Graham Bradley (jockey), Carl Lewis, James Hall, Elmore Leonard, Barry Eisler

Tony Parsons, Mario Puzo, Jonathan Valin, Colin Bateman, T.Jefferson Parker

Northern Ireland crime fiction.

Dave Warner, and a few Valin's from his Harry Stoner PI series!
80's US crime fiction.
A few highlights - Valin's books - it's been a while since I read anything from him. Harry Crews - ditto. Charles Willeford and Elmore Leonard have both been favourites for years.

Lowlights, nothing especially though a few books look intimidating because of their size.

  1. Col - I like Peter Robinson's Alan Banks series quite a lot. I hope you will too. And I see you have a couple of collections of shorter stories. I think they can be really interesting ways to decide what you think of an author's work. At any rate, you've got lots to keep you busy there...

    1. Margot thanks - I have had Robinson's books for years, but other things seem to jump in front and they just gather dust......I need some of your extra long 30 hour days please!

  2. I like Peter Robinson's books too, so far as I have read them. But I am also intimidated by the number of them. I should read more of them though... he is Canadian so would count for that challenge.

    1. Just looked him up again, as I had him pegged as an English author, but I suppose he qualifies by birth as English but as Canadian by residence, maybe citizenship? Anyway Inspector Banks is upto 23 books so far and I think the only one of his I have read is the first!

  3. Nothing much to tempt me there on first sight, but you might well persuade me with actual reviews when the time comes. I had never heard of Harry Crews, though obviously an important person in some circles!

    1. I thought you might fancy a book or two on boxing...maybe not. I do look Mr Crews books - maybe not everyone's taste but certainly mine!

  4. Col, I have been meaning to read Charles Willeford having discovered him and his books only after I started blogging. Actually, that's the case with many of the books that I have read since I took to blogging. I don't know if that's good or bad.

    1. Willeford is one of my favourite authors. I think his Hoke Moseley series of books - which I haven't yet uncovered in my sorting and logging are some of my favourites in the crime genre.
There's a bit about them on his wiki page - the first was made into a film I believe which I have never seen.

    2. Col, thanks for the link. He is quite popular among many of our blog acquaintances.

    3. You're welcome. COCKFIGHTER was also made into a film in the 70's. I might try and track it down in addition to MIAMI BLUES. I think he also had a small part in it.
His first published work was poetry in an anthology-collection of loose leaf pieces back in the late 40's.

    4. I love Charles Willeford. I'm kind of hoarding his books.
