FRANK SCALISE - A VILLAGE OF STRANGERS (2022)

Synopsis/blurb...

Fleetwood has experienced something no parent should ever have to go through. In the aftermath, his world has fallen apart. Now he is holed up in a motel in Leavenworth, Washington, trying to work up the courage to end his life.

Tara has been working at a restaurant In Leavenworth for the last few weeks, trying to outrun guilt and anger.

The singer is on a solo tour, trying to salvage his career and his personal life, both of which are in shambles.

In one way or another, for better or worse, each of them will find each other and discover what it truly means to live in... a village of strangers.

A dark, difficult, and ultimately heart-warming journey told in a non-linear fashion that explores the power of music, the pain of great loss, and the strength of tenacity.

A really fantastic, life affirming read which offered a measure of comfort in these dark days of horrific global news. It's a one or two sitting read and concerns three lives that are suffering and in pain.

Death, grief, regret, loss, divorce, baggage, blame, emotional distance, suffering, friendship, love, music, memories, power, survival, communication, trust, forgiveness, connection and ultimately hope and healing.

Character, story, pacing, setting and outcome - all present in spades.

5 from 5

Frank Scalise pens his crime fiction under the moniker, Frank Zafiro. His more mainstream stories are published under his own name. I enjoy both.

  1. It definitely sounds like a positive, life-affirming sort of story, Col. And the characters sound very real; that's the sort of thing people do go through in real life. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and it sounds like exactly the sort of story we need right now.
