Another dirty half dozen......

Two cops, both on different sides of the law – both with the same gangland boss in their sights.

Sam Batford is an undercover officer with the Metropolitan Police who will stop at nothing to get his hands on fearsome crime-lord Vincenzo Guardino’s drug supply.

DCI Klara Winter runs a team on the National Crime Agency, she’s also chasing down Guardino, but unlike Sam Batford she’s determined to bring the gangster to justice and get his drugs off the streets.

Set in a time of austerity and police cuts where opportunities for corruption are rife, Rubicon is a tense, dark thriller that is definitely not for the faint hearted.

‘A taut, exciting and utterly authentic thriller with a compelling narrator’ – Louise Voss

‘A sharp, slick, gripping and compelling novel’ – Jane Isaac
Net Galley addition
In an age of cyber-crime, Finn is an old school thief: he's never stolen anything weighing less than five tons. Now, fresh out of prison and flat broke, he's got a line on his biggest job ever.

Cracking the most heavily guarded private vault in North America? No problem.

Hauling $50 million of precious metal out past guards, dozens of policemen and an armored SWAT battalion? Even easier.

But navigating the betrayals of double-crossing partners, the machinations of a hedge-fund billionaire gone bad, and the ambiguous proposals of a woman with her own agenda?

Finn has only begun to figure out the downside.

Charlie Wiggs is a quiet, unassuming accountant who has worked in a Glasgow firm for thirty years.

When he agreed to look after a package for a work colleague, he didn’t expect to be flung from the roof of a forty-story building. He didn’t intend to be caught up in a world of money laundering and blackmail. Nor did he ever think he would find himself being hunted by a vicious criminal gang.

Forced to flee for his life Charlie is reluctantly joined by George, a maintenance man, and Tina, George’s girlfriend.

The trio find themselves falling into a world they are ill-equipped to deal with. A world populated by criminals and death. A world that gives them three choices: run, die or fight back...

***Praise for Falling***

“With its intriguing perspective, blistering action and swarms of dodgy guys in suits, this is an explosive, harrowing riot that has movie potential written all over it.”

Tales from the Underbelly is a series of linked stories, centred around a few characters and those that get caught up in the criminal word in which they operate, some through choice, some through circumstance and some that aren't even aware of their brushes with these kingpins of the underworld.

Tony Ricco and Jimmy O'Keefe are rival gang leaders running the streets of a gritty UK city. The incidents in this book take the reader on journey's through Chinese takeaways, gyms, city streets and roads, run down council estates and fancy suburban houses - the places you and I visit daily - but hopefully never encounter the underbelly that's never far away.

This linked collection includes six short stories, a novelette and a novella. Throughout these stories we learn more about the world in which Ricco and O'Keefe operate, and the reach of their influence over the minor crooks, the police and even the general public - just how close are you and I to rubbing shoulders with someone linked to the urban underbelly.

A twisted, fast-paced thriller about a wisecracking con man and his sideshow troupe of small time criminals who accidentally become the most popular performers on the Las Vegas Strip. A sex-crazed midget Elvis and safecracking swami highlight this cast of social delinquents who suddenly find themselves in the crosshairs of a serial killer. Armed with little more than street smarts, this band of misfits fight an uphill battle against a vicious billionaire, a bent cop and betrayal from within as they race the clock not only to save themselves, but prevent the biggest mass murder in American history.

It’s not every day a bloke stumbles across a dismembered torso on Nobby’s beach.
Lachie Munro is starting to feel like he’s a magnet for trouble. Only the day before he fished a giant haul of heroin out of his favourite abalone poaching spot near Newcastle.
There’s a better than even chance that the heroin and the torso are connected and he should leave well enough alone. But the opportunity to get ahead of the game is too good to pass up.
But how do you sell several kilos of heroin? It’s not like drug dealers are listed in the Yellow Pages. And what happens when the owners come looking for their missing package? Is the torso a warning to anyone thinking of crossing them?
Now a person of interest to the police, Lachie needs to stay one step ahead of them and a local bikie he’s managed to insult, pay off a big time dealer from Sydney, placate the neighbour’s labrador, Horace, and win the heart of the gorgeous new Fisheries Officer he’s fallen for.
If Lachie can pull it all off, he might just get something for nothing . . .

  1. Col – After the week we’ve had over here, I am leaning toward comic crime novels. But two here might work well: THE DOWNSIDE and FALLING.

    1. Elgin, I think I'd struggle to pick a favourite from this batch to be honest. I can well understand you're need for something light though at the minute. Westlake or Hiaasen time maybe?

    2. I recently finished Hiaasen’s latest, RAZOR GIRL, which had me laughing out loud. He is one of my favorites. Richard Stark’s (Westlake’s) THE HUNTER is nearing the top of Mount TBR.

    3. Elgin, I didn't find RAZOR GIRL as strong as some of his previous novels, though it had its moments. I ought to get back to reading some Richard Stark Parker books soon.

  2. Oh, these look good, Col! Nice to see some Aidan Thoren there. I need to do a spotlight on his work sometime...

  3. Col, I couldn't put a finger on any one, they all sound interesting, though I'm a bit inclined towards G.J. Brown's FALLING.

    1. Prashant, a good choice form the 6 I think. Brown has a second novel with the same lead character publishing soon, if it isn't out already.
