JUNE 2017 - READING LIST AND PICK OF THE MONTH

A bit of a drop off in my reading numbers for the month - 9 books completed though 2 of them were really short offerings. I think the first book in the month was a struggle and it set the tone for my reading pace afterwards. It would have been nice to hit double figures but its of no real importance in the scheme of things

Johana Gustawsson - Block 46 (2017) (2)

Simon Maltman  - Bongo Fury (2017) (4)

Conrad Jones - Shadows (2017) (4)

Oliver Tidy - He Made Me (2017) (4)

Gunnar Staalesen - Wolves in the Dark (2014/2017) (4)

Olly Cunningham - Black Lines: Dodgy Pills Volume 1 (2016) (2)

Claire MacLeary - Cross Purpose (2017) (4)

Charles Harris - The Breaking of Liam Glass (2017) (4)

Various - Junk (2013) (3)

6 of the 9 rated 4 STARS, 1 at 3 STARS, and 2 which I didn't really enjoy at 2 STARS

No stand-out contender for my favourite book of the month. On the basis of which one I would pick up if forced to re-read one of them, I would choose Shadows by Conrad Jones.

More useless trivia......

8 different authors, discounting Junk - a compilation from analysis

7 of the 8 were new-to-me authors....... Simon Maltman I've read once before.

I still have unread books from 3 of these authors on the shelf, in the tubs or on the Kindle...Oliver Tidy, Conrad Jones and Gunnar Staalesen

Gender analysis - 6 male reads, 2 female - same as last month.

I think 3 authors are English, 1 from Ireland, 1 from Northern Ireland, 1 from Scotland, 1 from France, 1 from Norway.

All 9 were fiction reads - 6 novels and 1 novella, 1 graphic book/comic strip, 1 collection of short stories.

All were published this decade - 7 from this year, 1 from 2016 and 1 from 2013.

1 of the 9 books were pre-owned - 5 came via the publisher and 1 from the author, 1 a download via Insta-freebie

Favourite cover? Probably Shadows by Conrad Jones

I don't really have a second favourite. Not a fantastic month for cover art - maybe Block 46 at a push.

My reads were this long - 312 - 40 - 252 - 279 - 308 - 28 - 362 - 422 - 104

Total page count =  2107 (2897 in May)

4 Kindle reads, 4 paperbacks, 1 PDF.

2 < 50,
0 between 51 < 100,
1 between 101 < 200,
2 between 201 < 300,
3 between 301 < 400,
1 > 400 pages

Charles Harris and The Breaking of Liam Glass was the longest @ 422.

    1. Prashant, there were a couple which were a bit of a change in tempo for me - Charles Harris and Olly Cunningham especially.

    1. Two again, go me! I may go for an all-female month later this year, that would surprise you!

  3. Col – Some good reads here. But, unlike you, if a story is a 2, I usually stop and move on to the next book in the pile.

    1. Elgin, I don't have a stop button. I perhaps should, but I get all over come with Catholic guilt if I don't finish it. A bit like getting told by your mum - "eat your dinner up, there's starving kids in Africa would love that" - I perhaps feel the story may improve if I persist.

  4. Just going by the titles, these all sound very dark. You have reminded me I want to look into Claire MacLeary and Conrad Jones.
