  1. I wondered about that Wilbur Smith, myself, Col. But you've got Leonard, Westlake, Mankell and Kerrigan, and those sound good. And the Rendell, too. :-)

    1. I had a friend years ago who used to only read Wilbur Smith and he loved them. They seem interesting but are definitely out of my comfort zone - more kind of action/adventure. I wouldn't mind trying one but they are extremely long, or at least they appear to be.
The others mentioned are much more my thing.

  2. I have got to dig up my small pile of Elmore Leonard, including SWAG, and Donald E. Westlake, and start reading them. I read Wilbur Smith's RAGE ages ago, though I'm not sure I want to read descriptive books now. I remember his novels for their sweeping landscapes.

    1. Smith always seemed to be about African plains and big-game hunters and ivory poaching and the like, but kind of to the theme of why use one word when you can use fifty! Less would be more in my book.

I'd much rather be reading Leonard and Westlake!

  3. We all seem to rather be reading Leonard and Westlake. Right now I'm re-re-reading the 87th Precinct books and loving them just as much as I did the first and second time around.

    1. Mary, I suppose there's a lot worse we could be spending our time on. 87th is another series I've neglected. It'll be first time for me when I do start it.

  4. Lots of Donald Westlake and Elmore Leonard... that sounds like fun. Someday I will get to Elmore Leonard.

Not sure why I haven't read anymore Elmore Leonard. :::shrug::::

    1. I got the Dee when my local library was having a clear-out a few years ago. I should give it a spin soon!

Tsk...not read any more Elmore?.... too many other things, I know that problem.

  6. Gonna pick on an obscure one here. Damon Runyon IS the king of the short story, but that book you have is kind of a ripoff - collection of early journalism and stories that weren't good enough. I bought it many years ago and was very disappointed about wasted money. I think you should send it on to a charity shop...

    1. Oops...well I don't have anything else by him, so might start it. 8 or 9 decent reviews from 9 only on AM-UK (I'm only saying!)
