  1. I'm always so impressed with the variety of books that you have, Col! And I'm grateful for the nudge to read some of Cruz Smith's work that's not in his Renko series...

    1. Margot thanks - I think there's a bit of diversity among my books, but I do have favourite authors and particular themes that I prefer. I'm keen to try and vary my readingt though, to avoid getting jaded.

  2. The Lansdales look best to me. I have one of his and enjoyed it years ago.

Are you in danger of running out of tubs? Fifty is a huge amount.

    1. Glen, he writes across a lot of genres which means I don't find all his books appealing - just most of them!
Re the tubs - I got them from my workplace and it's a bit touch and go whether I have enough for the task at hand. Not acquiring any more books might be a good idea though!

    2. I looked it up and the Lansdale I have is Sunset and Sawdust. You would like it I think.

    3. I'm hoping I have that one - the title seems familiar, but I haven't located it yet.

  3. Congrats on the landmark, Col!

For me, the Rankins look to be the pick of the bunch.

    1. Congrats or maybe commiserations - that's a helluva lot of reading ahead of me, though in fairness I have mebbe read 20% of the library, but entertain thoughts of re-reads! (There in lies madness)
Not read as much of Rankin as I should but if you gave me an ultimatum him or Lansdale - I'd plump for the Texan!

  4. Col, I read most Chase novels with semi-clad models on the covers. Those books still hold up whenever I read them. I have got a replica of Cruz Smith's "Stallion Gate" and a pile of John D. MacDonald, all unread as yet.

    1. Oh, and congratulations on the 50 & 2,500 milestones!

    2. I've not read any of Chase's books, though there a certain fascination for the promise of what's inside based on the covers. There's a definite 70s feel to paperbacks of the time aimed at the male market, I think. Bimbo, bikini, cleavage, legs = SEX! Not sure the content subsequently reflects that.

      50 tubs down - maybe 40 more to go.......OUCH!

  5. Amazing, I have a lot of books but you have me beat, I am sure. Lots of interesting authors here. I want to read Paul Levine for sure. I loved, loved, loved Legends by Littell and I have a lot more of his books to read. I did read The Company years ago and was lukewarm about it but then I went and bought another copy so I can reread. At 800 pages.

  6. High praise for Legends - I will look forward to it. The Company does look intimidating but hey we can both do it! Paul Levine's first Lassiter book - To Speak For The Dead, I thought was amazing. Time to get back to him if I can.

  7. Honestly, you really must have set some kind of record for a non-bookshop collection. How much farther to go? I'm a big Chabon fan, and you might enjoy Kavalier and Klay. Like Tracy I read The Company and found it very long and boring - what's she doing making me think I might like to read a different one? Very unfair of you Tracy...

    1. More than 30 tubs, possibly 40. Mad I know. Not read Chabon, I think I used to confuse him in my head with Jerome Charyn who I have read.
Yeah - give Littell another go, I bet you get to him before me.

    2. Regarding Chabon, Tracy and I both read The Yiddish Policeman''s Union. Excellent alternate history plus police procedural set in Alaska. Pretty long.

    3. Glen, I think I swerved away from that one, though you make it sound quite interesting,

  8. Glad you mentioned the dangers of re-reading -- I fear that is my reading downfall. Have you read much Peter Temple? I've only read Truth, but really liked his style and should (patriotically!) read some more. Some of his books have been made into a TV series now here.

    1. Only The Broken Shore and one of his Jack Irish books. Not enough that's for sure!
