  1. I read Lawrence Sanders, particularly the Deadly Sin series, in my youth—a period when I was hooked to over a dozen bestselling authors. Joseph Wambaugh is an writer I'd like to read some day. I often come across his novels though I have never been inspired to pick any.

    1. I've not yet tried Lawrence Sanders yet. Wambaugh I last read maybe 15 years or so ago! I ought to make time for both, though in truth there will never be enough time, Prashant!

  2. I see you have plenty of Ross Macdonald, Col. I always liked his Lew Archer; I hope you will, too. And I'm glad you have some John D. MacDonald, too. His Travis McGee is iconic, in my opinion. Oh, and I hope you'll like Rankin's Exit Music. Nothing like a bit of John Rebus...

    1. Rebus, Archer, Travis........where do I begin? Well I have read a few from John D. - so maybe the others then! :)

  3. Kanon's Alibi is probably the novel of his I've liked the best: one of those novels one becomes slowly more and more immersed in. More recently I was disappointed by his Stardust, but that may have been because I was expecting too much of it -- set in 1950s Hollywood B-movie land, an' all.

What everyone else says about Rebus, Archer, McGee. is an especially good Rebus. It marked the last in the series . . . until, of course, Rankin restarted it.

    1. I haven't yet tried Kanon, John. I don't think I have too much by him, definitely not Stardust anyway.
Rankin's Rebus is definitely one I'll try to read next year, but you'll probably have to remind me!

  4. Some good ones there: I like Kanon and Hornby and have read and liked both of those. The John Walsh book is very funny, particularly for those of us with Irish Catholic backgrounds... And I like the title Finnegans Week, very clever.

    1. I loved the film of Hornby's book. The Walsh I picked up because of the connection and background. The penny only dropped about Wambaugh's title when I was logging, the reference had otherwise escaped me.

  5. I have not read nearly enough Rankin.

    1. Elgin - ditto, I can chalk up the first Rebus and the first of one of his other series, Malcolm Fox.

  6. I will be interested in seeing how you like Ross Macdonald's books. I have only read one of the Rebus series. The first one of course. Haven't tried Kanon yet, although I have several of his books.

    1. I haven't tried Ross MacDonald yet. I think part of me likes acquiring books almost as much as actually reading them!

    2. I understand, Col, I love acquiring books. But I do have to slow down in that area, regardless.

    3. Yes, but I keep getting my head turned and have very little willpower! Maybe 2016! Haha
