Thomas Perry - really wish he was being republished in a systematic way as ebooks (or maybe it's a regional access issue... *sad face*), as I'd like to read the Jane Whitfield books in order. I think that's a series I'd enjoy a lot.

ReplyDeleteBoom - Dave Barry. I was pleased to find this one, as I know you have a high opinion of him. I'm 95% certain I have a copy of BIG TROUBLE somewhere, just haven't located it yet. I think I bought it because of the similarities to Hiaasen - well I hope they are similar. I was never compelled to see out his columns though, unlike Hiaasen or Paul Thomas - maybe because I haven't actually read his prose yet.
DeleteTOBACCO ROAD....I have been meaning to read for a few years. From the little I know of it, it's perhaps a bleaker more desperate portrayal of the hardships of the Great Depression. Maybe a la GRAPES OF WRATH, but without much hope or optimism.

DeleteI used to really enjoy Dave Barry's newspaper columns when we lived in the USA - I didn't know he'd written fiction too, sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI never ever read one of his columns. I'm not sure if he has written more than the 2 mentioned above, but even so I will stick for now. I'm 95% certain mine are UK published so you should be able to track them down fairly easily.
DeleteCol, I went through a Vietnam War reading phase too and also remember reading Time Life series on other wars, particularly WWII. Now I browse through them online. I used to read Dave Barry's column a long time ago and I'd forgotten about him. Art Buchwald was another but his humour got stale after a while.
ReplyDeleteI was fascinated by Vietnam, still am but to a lesser degree....maybe distant memories of seeing it on the TV when I was growing up.
DeleteI have heard the name - ART BUCHWALD, but don't know anything about him. I will have to look him up.
Some of these are familiar, of course, but many are new to me. Looking forward to hearing about them. I like the look of that Tom Franklin book.
