Nice cover!

Another nice cover!
Thoughts well I did enjoy the first Joseph Hansen book I read a year or two ago - Fadeout. So it makes sense to get the other 12 or 13 in the series doesn't it? Hansen's main man is an older guy, an insurance claims investigator who happens to be gay.......all appeared between 1970 and 1991. Time to read some more about Dave Brandstetter.

Jesmyn Ward's book looks interesting also........on the whole nothing here that troubles me.

Full list of 50........

  1. Crais, Holt, HIghsmith, and Dick Francis too? Yes, I'd be happy to help sort through your library, Col! Of course, I'd spend more time reading than actually getting any sorting done....

    1. Margot, any assistance gratefully received! Even if you might get distracted... I have a job exiting the attic without bringing down an armful of books myself!

  2. I read a couple of Hansen's and liked them, but I don't have your completism! When you're doing the logging, do you sneak any of the books out, moving them up the list to become the next read?

    1. I haven't been tempted to do that really, I haven't done any juggling of the tubs other than adding one or taking one away to keep each exactly at 50 reads. I did rob an earlier tub of my sole 1955 logged book to read this month and don't feel compelled to add something else back.
I think the early part of this year other than Rich's monthly I will concentrate on clearing up review copies and Net Galley and the like, as I kind of feel guilty over falling behind. A bit like grabbing the biggest bit of cake off the table then leaving half.

  3. Col, I have been putting off reading THE KITE RUNNER which has received good feedback and reviews in India. I have also neglected Patricia Highsmith's fiction and hope to read something by her this year. I miss reading Mickey Spillane and need to look for his paperbacks in used bookshops. Joseph Hansen? Never heard of him until now. Your tubs continue to enhance my book knowledge.

    1. Prashant, I have yet to try Highsmith or Spillane myself. Hansen was unknown to me a year or two ago, I did enjoy his first, hence the rest....

  4. I read the first two books in the David Brandstetter series and enjoyed them. May read a couple of more this year.

    1. In an ideal world - 30 hour days and no work - I'd plough through the series! I'd like to say I will read a couple this year, at worst, but we'll see....I'll keep an eye out for any reviews you post.

  5. I hope to read some Joseph Hansen this year. You have quite a few Robert Crais books... have you read any of his books yet. I read the first two books he wrote and liked them fine, but now I am way behind. The story of my reading life.

    1. 2013 I started reading a few series from the start - Bill Pronzini, Max Allan Collins, John D. MacDonald, Lawrence Block and Robert Crais as well as another I wasn't enjoying too much. I read 1 of each for 4 or 5 straight months which was working perfectly....... I then got side-tracked by people offering me review copies and I discovered Net Galley.....and I haven't got back to my own reading, in a sense ever since......I'd like to clear all my review promises and other commitments then start back on reading more of my own books. I find it hard to say no though!

    2. I remember when you were reading John D. MacDonald and Lawrence Block more. I was trying to wait to comment until you added the list... I should have waited one more day. You do have a lot of Hansen. I only have four, and I really hope I get to one or two of them this year.

    3. I want to get back to those reading days really. I could have added the updated list earlier, in fact for the next two weeks I already have them logged. It doesn't look that good or easy on the eye once I have done it, so I kind of wait a few days until after the posting.....sorry!

  6. I read a lot of Flynns a longish time ago. He wrote a good, involved plot, I thought.
