Highlights or forgotten treasures.......not too many, but also nothing I'd turn my nose up at now either......Dan Simmons, Gerald Petievich, Charles Williams.

I'd not thought of Peyton Place as crime fiction before, but I guess it covers pretty much everything!
ReplyDeleteVicki, it might be a stretch maybe. My blog friend, Prashant ( http://chesscomicsandcrosswords.blogspot.co.uk/) wrote about it a month or two ago so I went and looked it up, and feeling nostalgic - vaguely remembering the TV show growing up - I thought I would have some of that!
DeleteI would reckon maybe 15-20% of the library, could possibly fall outside the parameters of crime fiction......biographies, history, current affairs, literature, sport etc.
Like Vicki, I'm impressed to see Peyton Place there. I noticed Boston Cream - that's the name of a cake, like my Lady Baltimore entry last week, you could have done a matching blogpost, books-named-after-cakes-named-after-cities. Is that THE Jim Thompson writing about Ironside? Very surprising. I used to love Ironside, I am intrigued by this.
ReplyDeleteYes it is THE Jim Thompson. There's a fantastic blogpost on this one I only just found. Link at the end. I can dimly recall watching this as a family. My dad was a fan - and TBH there wasn't an awful lot of TV, especially American TV he would be bothered to watch - IRONSIDE was one of the exceptions.

DeleteBOSTON CREAM - never knew it was a cake. Spookily I was/am going to do a 2 BY post tomorrow by the author with this book. I checked his other titles I don't think they are cakes! BUFFALO JUMP, HIGH CHICAGO, MISS MONTREAL........or are they.
Col, it's good to seen Deighton and Sanders in the tubs. I'm planning to revisit at least some of their novels.

ReplyDeleteMargot, Camilleri's turn will come one day, just don't know when. I read the first years ago and enjoyed it, just haven't been back to him yet. I think I have possibly got the first 10 in the series......if my brains were made of dynamite - I wouldn't have enough to blow my hat off! Madness

ReplyDeleteTracy, you are so right. It's kind of embarrassing doing this logging lark. I'm enjoying it as I'm re-discovering old forgotten books, but it's a bit humiliating airing the idiocy of my habit. I could read my way through the library a tub at a time and never need to buy another book in probably two lifetimes.
DeleteDon't worry, Col, I have many plastic containers of books in my garage in addition to bookshelves inside. I have the same problem just continuing to buy books. I get frustrated because I can only read a limited number of them a month.
DeleteI'm going to seriously try not to buy anything or request anything for November and December. If I'm offered something - maybe a different story!
