I can't recall too much from my pre-Christmas viewing only that the fare served up by the schedulers over the holiday season was pretty dire in my opinion.
Dallas Buyers Club (2013) |
Started but not actually finished. I think I succumbed to tiredness, switched off halfway through and went to bed. I was enjoying it up to this point. I'm not sure if I like Matthew McConaughey crazed and manic, he's a little bit too scary. I'll have to get back to this one at some point.
The OA (2016) |
Another series my son got us into over Christmas - its on Netflix. A bit weird as you can tell from the description. We watched a couple with my son and will finish the rest of the series shortly. Not quite sure how it all hangs together - a blind woman no longer blind, a captive no longer a captive - lots of questions to be answered. Brit Marling is pretty damn good.
Hannibal Season 3 (2015) |
Loved the first two seasons and we had this one recorded for an age before deciding to give it a go. Lasted about 3 or 4 episodes before pulling the plug and hitting delete. Not a patch on the first two in my opinion, very arty-farty and full of dream-like sequences. I was never too sure what was real and what was in Will's head. Mads Mikkelsen was uber-cool as per normal - the good looking bastard. Apart from that - it was a pile of shite!
Spotlight (2015) |
Uncomfortable viewing for anyone not just this lapsed Catholic. Superb drama, difficult theme - the truth prevails in the end. All the cast were amaze-balls, especially Michael Keaton and Mark Ruffalo - highly recommended.
I've been hearing some very good things about Spotlight, Col. I can see how it would make a person uncomfortable, though. I very much want to watch it...when I'm ready.
ReplyDeleteI think you would enjoy Spotlight, Margot when the times comes. "Enjoy" possibly not the right word.
DeleteI'm desperate to see The OA -- Marling's work is always interesting, even on those rare occasions where it doesn't quite come off. Of course, we don't have Netflix and there ain't no DVD edition as yet. Grr!
ReplyDeleteBy the time it is available on DVD, I may have finished it - snail's pace progress at the minute. I saw her in The East which we watched last year and I liked that one. Not caught her in anything else.
DeleteI'm sitting on SPOTLIGHT even though it's about my ex-fraternity. I didn't much like DALLAS BUYERS CLUB.
ReplyDeleteThe jury's still out on DALLAS BUYER'S CLUB - I prefer McConaughey when he's a bit more restrained. SPOTLIGHT is highly recommended.
DeleteWe want to see Spotlight sometime. It does sound like difficult viewing.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly isn't a comfortable watch. I hope you get to see it.
DeleteMy daugther really recommended Spotlight, so some time... Not sure about Dallas Buyers Club. And do you ever think there are too many TV series these days? I can't keep up.
ReplyDeleteYou have to do as the kid's say Moira - its the new order in the universe. DBC - I'll finish because my son says I have to, it was ok and I wasn't not enjoying it. Re TV series - yes I get you. I have a load of box sets to catch up with plus about 4 seasons of Peaky Blinders, the rest of OA, Broadchurch to keep on top of, plus new stuff around the corner......Fargo, for one when it reappears. Not enough time for watching, reading and blogging!
